This course is for anyone! People who wish to learn from the beginning, or to build on existing knowledge and experience. This course is aimed at community groups, retail environment, and many more. No group is excluded!

Course Objective:

To raise and increase awareness of mental health in society (workplace) Identify & recognise the symptoms & causes for a variety of common/less-common MH problems and to have a look at support options.

Course Contents:

Looking at definitions of mental health/well-being & mental distress

Look at the 3 main models

  • Medical /biological
  • Psychological
  • Social

Examine the impact and influence of race, culture and gender on an individual’s experience of mental health and look at the interaction.

Common held misconceptions of mental ill health and a brief look at the difference between psychosis and neurosis.

Introduction to Personality disorders typical features, common themes.

Look at different types of PD the causes treatment and appropriate support.

Look at general anxiety disorder (GAD) The common mental health conditions: anxiety, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder and phobias.

A brief look at what help is available.

Less common conditions

Signs & symptoms, causes, treatment and support of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia

A look at signposting and “handholding”

A brief look at advocacy and colleague support (workplace and out of work)
